She Was Ready to Quit. Two Years Later, She Was Running the Transformation.
My most impactful work has always begun with a leap of faith. Here is one of my favorite examples:
When Potential Knocks Without a Budget
A senior leader at a global company reached out to me at a crossroads. After nearly two decades of top performance, she was ready to quit. Despite her track record and her company's stated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, every door to advancement seemed closed. She felt invisible.
She wanted to do something, so she was curious about my program. But her company wouldn't sponsor her. And she couldn't pay out of pocket.
Most consultants would have walked away. The business case wasn't there. The financial risk was clear. But I saw the light in her. I could hear her potential. I believed in her greatness. And I sensed she was exactly the kind of leader the world needs more of.
So I made a choice: I invested in her.
The Year of Uncertainty
For twelve months, my team and I worked with her intensively without knowing if I would ever be compensated beyond a small deposit she made a few months in. We dove deep into her purpose and inside-out leadership, dismantled limiting beliefs, explored new perspectives and solutions, and built the foundation for a new way of working.
The transformation happened in small but solid shifts - moments where she began to see herself differently, speak up more powerfully, and claim space she'd been told wasn't hers. Our work together took place during Covid, and I taught her ways to turn crisis into quantum leaps. She was brilliant at implementing every idea my team and I gave her, creating miracle after miracle. She got noticed, acknowledged, and doors that had been closed began to open.
At the end of that first year, she sent me a message:
"It is the best training I have ever taken, and that says a lot. Thank you for calling on me and helping me on my way."
The feedback she received from her team revealed the ripple effect: the way she lifted them during Covid enabled them to lift their own teams.
From Invisible to Indispensable
By year two, everything had changed.
She went from planning her exit to leading company-wide transformation. She created her dream role - one that didn't exist before she envisioned it - and became the catalyst for revolutionizing how the entire organization worked, bringing new ways of thinking and being into a system that desperately needed it.
Her company never knew it was my leadership development that sparked this metamorphosis.
The Power of Leadership Whispering
I share this story for three reasons.
First, because every company has leaders like this in their organization - and most end up losing them. If you're reading this and lead a team or organization, find them and give them what they need to blossom. If you recognize yourself in this story, get the help you deserve. Second, to illustrate one of the aspects of our boutique academy approach: leadership whispering. This is deep, transformational work that happens behind the scenes. It doesn't create revolution by making noise or announcing itself. It might not even get credit. It works quietly, powerfully, from the inside out. The biggest transformations often do.
Thirdly, when you invest in someone's potential before they can prove it, before anyone else sees it, before even they fully believe in it - that's when magic happens. Not only because of some technique or framework, but because someone finally felt seen, supported, and called forward into their greatness.
Why Unconventional Approaches Matter
There's another lesson here: most profound changes often begin in the most unconventional ways.
If I had insisted on traditional payment structures, corporate sponsorship, or proof of ROI before beginning, this transformation would never have happened. One of the most talented leaders at that company would have left. The ripple effects of her work - the people she's now developing, the systems she's shifting, the culture she's shaping - would not exist.
Sometimes the most strategic business decision is to trust what you see in someone, even when no one else does. Especially when no one else does.
The Question for You
This experience taught me something crucial: the leaders who will create the future we need aren't always the ones with budgets, sponsors, or institutional backing. Sometimes they're the ones who are ready to quit because the system doesn't see them yet.
If you want your company to thrive in the years ahead, ask yourself: what becomes possible when someone finally invests in their potential?
For companies: How many transformational leaders are you losing because you won't invest in them? How many are planning their exits right now, not because they lack capability, but because they lack support?
For leaders: What would change if you found someone who truly saw your potential and was willing to invest in it—not just with words, but with time, expertise, and faith?
Where Revolution Really Begins
That senior leader didn't need to be fixed. She needed to be seen, believed in, and given the mindset, perspectives and tools to lead from a place of wholeness rather than proving her worth.
The revolution she's now leading in her company started with an internal revolution - the moment she stopped planning her exit, grabbed the opportunity for out-of-the-box evolution and started claiming her place.
And it all began with a simple decision: to invest in potential.
That's the kind of investment that doesn't just transform one person. It transforms companies, cultures, and the future of work itself.
